I am the co-Founder and co-President of Chemistry Club at Highland! We meet every Thursday, and we do fun mini experiments. We made tie dye shirts as a last day of school activity last year, but one of my favorites was standing in a ring of fire!
The Good Club is a service club at Highland. I attend what used to be biweekly and are now monthly meetings. We do activites that help the community such as making care packages for homeless people, and making tie blankets for animal shelters.
I worked at the Minnesota Farmers Union Coffee Shop over the past two summers. It was a wonderful experience. I learned a lot about customer service, and I enjoyed a unique work environment.
I play the ErHu (二胡), which is an instrument commonly described as the Chinese violin. It looks completely different, but it sounds and functions similarly. There is a bow and two strings. The bow is fixed between the two strings, and produces many unique sounds. I have been playing since the age of five.
I participate in HP Geo Club (Highland Park Geography). This is a student led club where we learn about places all around the world through the popular game of GeoGuesser. We meet every other week in the morning before school. I have learned about so many new areas through this club. It is super fun!
I joined theater during the winter of my sophmore year to try it out. It was fun, and a positive learning expeirence. I improved my stage presence and voice projection. I also met many new people who I looked up to in the theater community. I was able to perform in three one-act plays that winter.
I have always enjoyed math class, so I decided to expand that passion outside the classroom. I competed weekly during the winter of my freshman and sophomore year. I got to experience working on complex math problems as a team. I also got the feel for math competitions and how the scoring works!
What about volunteering? There is a whole other page for that!
